The Heart of England Co-Operative is supporting Hereward
Students from Hereward College, a specialist college in Coventry UK for students with physical and learning disabilities, will benefit from a donation from the Heart of England Co-operative Society.
The donation was awarded after the Society’s members and staff selected Hereward College, a general FE college in Coventry, as the charity of their choice through a vote.
The £500 donation was taken from the profits raised at the Society’s store near Hereward College, where students regularly shop.
The funds have been given to Friends of Hereward College’, a charity which exists to further the educational aspirations and ambitions of students with complex support requirements, by providing additional funds that enables them to access training, equipment and services without which they would be disadvantaged.
The money raised this year through the charity will be used to cover two educational trips planned by the college- the Ghyll Head Trip, situated in its own beautiful grounds on the side of Lake Windermere and the Calvert Trust trip, situated on the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake, both in the Lake District National Park.
During the trips the students will get the chance to participate in a wide range of activities including canoeing, hill walking, orienteering, archery, climbing and abseiling. In the past, students from Hereward have experienced great success during the activities, which has led to massive increases in their self-esteem and social development.
Mandy Price, Physiotherapy Technical Instructor at Hereward College said that:
‘By supporting our work, the Heart of England Co-operative Society will be helping us to ensure that we continue to offer the first class opportunities our students need to make their way in the world.
In the past, students and staff found educational trips to be hugely challenging and enjoyable and we are all looking forward to see what Ghyll Head and the Calvert Trust have to offer.’
The Heart of England Co-operative has also collaborated with Hereward College in the past as the organisation also offered support by donating funds for the College’s Garden Centre.
